Our jaws hit the floor today when we saw this piece from the Maddow blog:
Pablo Pantoja, up until fairly recently, has served as the state director of Florida Hispanic Outreach for the Republican National Committee. Yesterday, he became a Democrat and made a contribution to the ACLU.
It’s worth going to the source to read Pantoja in his own words. Here’s my favorite part:
When the political discourse resorts to intolerance and hate, we all lose in what makes America great and the progress made in society.
More and more I am hearing Latinos speak up about our political responsibility. And while I think Pantoja has made the best decision – the current incarnation of the GOP is never going to engage Latinos as full participants in American society – I also feel very strongly a thoughtful opposition is a sign of a healthy, functioning democracy.
